If a Locksmith can not answer your simple questions, how can you trust their ability to do the work you require?
Many that claim to be "Locksmiths", are really only "Code-smiths". They call a broker and give them your VIN# and for a small fee, the broker will send them your vehicles "key code". They look up that code in a computer, and it tells them what cuts to make on your specific key in order to turn your ignition or unlock your door. Fairly easy way to get your key made...
"So what's the problem with that?", you might be asking...
If "THEY" can use this method to get YOUR key code, then they can use this method to get YOUR key code when you are not around... 🤔
Or any one elses for that matter... 😲

Q:
In the state of Alabama, every locksmith is required to carry a Photo ID with them 24/7.
Look for their AESBL number. It should be present on their vehicle.
If you don't see an AESBL number anywhere, you can ask for them to show you their Locksmith License ID Card. This card will have a picture of your service professional, their personal locksmith ID number, and the name of the company they work for.
If for some reason they refuse to show you, or give you an excuse as to why they can't show you... Well... you now have your answer.
Q:
As locksmiths, we know every situation we pull up on is going to be different. There are numerous lock styles and manufacturers, and each one has different ways to gain entry.
A legitimate, honest locksmith, should be able to at least give you an ballpark estimate on the service you will need.
Sometimes we do not have enough information to quote the exact dollar amount, but we should be able to get close. Some jobs may even require that we come out and look at them before we can give you a quote.
Q:
What is going to happen if you break or loose your only key? That's right, STRANDED!... Also, did you know, in most cases, it's cheaper to get a second key made than it is to originate a new key?
When all the keys are lost, some vehicles require two keys to be put back into the system before it will even start.
We have recieved quotes that have been over $1000 for two keys after paying for the fob, cutting the emergency key, and programming.
Your Choice...
Q:
First off, there is absolutely no gurantee that we can program any key if it doesn't come from one of our suppliers. Most locksmiths will tell you "NO" in a heartbeat. Once a key is cut, it usually voids the warranty and it can not be returned. A lot of aftermarket keys are made with different material and can be extremely hard.
I have cut key blanks that have broken my cutters before and cutters cost between $75 and $120 each.
In short, you may end up paying more in the end, than you saved when you bought your own keys.
Q:
The easiest way to answer this question is by giving you a link to check out the AESBL.. >> Follow this link for your answer <<
Q:
ALA stands for "ALABAMA LOCKSMITH ASSOCIATION"
Their mission is to educate Locksmith's in the state of Alabama in all the latest tools and advanced security products in the industry to keep our state secure. They also hold Locksmith's up to a higher standard due to the importance of keeping our home's and business' secure.
TO THE PUBLIC
Alabama Law requires that ALL Locksmiths be licensed.
You can check with the AESBL to find a licensed locksmith in your area, or through ALOA
Every licensed locksmith will have a picture ID issued by the state of Alabama.
Q:
Let's make sure we are comparing "Apples to Apples" as the old saying goes.
There are a few things you need to know before you make a final decision on your "Dealer" purchase.
Most quoted "Dealer" Fobs do not include the emergency key, cutting the emergency key, or programming. If you have lost your only key, and it has to be programmed, you must now add the towing charge to get you to the dealers location.
Q:
The AESBL has a means to contact them and a complaint form which you can fill out and they will start an investigation if needed.
Q:
NASTF stands for "National Automotive Service Task Force"
NASTF also has a divison called VSP - "Vehicle Security Professional"
Q:
Quick answer is "NO!" First, lets determine what the lock will be used for. If it's just looks your after, then I would answer "yes" any lock will do.
The main function of a lock is to secure something of value. Whether it's your car, home, or business, locks are designed to prevent unauthorized entry, or at the least, slow down the unauthorized entry.
If you have a $500,000.00 house, would you want to protect it with a $5 lock? Knock off brands of locks have there place in the world, but not when it comes to protecting any of my valuables.
I suggest you go with name brand locks you can trust. Kwikset, Schlage, Yale, Cal-Royal, Marks, are just a few of the good locks that I have worked with and trust. There are many more on the market as well. With that said, there are many more poor quality locks on the market that have a cheap price because they are poorly designed, poor quality, made from cheap materials, have cheap finishes, and are cheaply made.
If you decide to purchase cheap locks, we suggest you use the money you saved to invest in a high quality security system... Just saying.
